$70M GLOBAL ELECTRICAL & POWER EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER · CLEVELAND, OH
Assistant Plant Controller
The current Plant Controller is intentionally grooming a right-hand who's expected to step into the top plant-finance seat down the road — whoever lands this job is the investment.
The Overview
This is a worldwide player in electrical and digital infrastructure for buildings, with a Cleveland manufacturing footprint that stretches back several decades. The local site — treated as the company's marquee operation — builds load bank systems and power-testing gear aimed at mission-critical industrial uses, and it turns over somewhere around $70 million a year. Growth for the organization is centered right here, and you can feel that energy in how the place runs.
The Role
Working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Plant Controller, the Assistant Controller covers the entire landscape of plant cost accounting along with supply-chain measures. Day-to-day you'll own bills of materials, upkeep of standard costs and the yearly cost roll, variance work both quarterly and continuous (purchase price variance, work-order variance, labor efficiency, absorption, scrap and yield), plus the month-end close. You'll also be the go-to on the supply-chain side for physical inventory, cycle counts, and figures like Days of Inventory, gross margin, and cycle-count accuracy. Rounding it out is reporting and visualization for plant leadership — dashboards, KPIs, and analysis on request.
In Our Words
Nobody's hiring a warm body here. The Plant Controller is purposely developing a successor, and the new hire is being groomed to become the plant-finance leader in time. Expect genuine exposure, ownership, and real growth rather than pushing transactions around. Because the work happens in an assembly setting — wiring, reading blueprints, Kaizen sessions — the cost accountant lives on the floor next to operations instead of being separated from it. For anyone eager to truly learn manufacturing and rise into running plant finance, Cleveland makes a strong case.
The Hiring Manager
Sitting at the facility level, the Plant Controller is known as a hands-on mentor who genuinely grows people. The wish list: flexible, sharp with analysis, team-oriented, and the type who moves toward a hard problem instead of shying from it.
The Culture
Insiders call this the company's prized site, and the day-to-day backs that up: folks pitch in and do whatever's needed, connections between people count, and staying planted in the plant — rather than tucked away in an office — is simply what's expected. Drive, a love of data, and true collaboration with the operations and engineering crews all get rewarded here.
Systems & ERP
Microsoft Office is a given, with Excel a must-have. Being handy with visualization tools and automating reports is a real plus.
The Location
Cleveland, Ohio. Fully on-site at the plant.
