GLOBAL INDUSTRIAL GEAR MANUFACTURER (PART OF A $10B CONGLOMERATE) · AMARILLO, TX
Controller
Own operations finance for a well-regarded business unit—with a clear runway to grow!
The Overview
A business unit within a large global industrial group, this operation has a long heritage in engineered gear drives that stretches back roughly a century. Its footprint spans manufacturing and assembly locations across the U.S.—including sites in Texas, the Gulf Coast region, and California—plus operations in China and an overseas joint venture.
The Role
During the first month, expect to get up to speed on the budgeting cycle alongside a current team member, own the month-end close, and handle journal entries and reconciliations. You'll also support forecasting and departmental budgets, manage the accounting tied to quality-system customer complaints, and partner with engineering and operations.
In Our Words
With roughly a hundred years behind it, this organization prides itself on holding onto its people and growing talent from within. Whoever steps into this seat will be groomed and coached to eventually take the reins as the next Director of Finance.
The Hiring Manager
You'll report directly to the Director of Finance, who wants a confident leader who communicates well. Deep cost accounting chops are essential—standard costing experience is a big plus—along with a solid grounding in SOX compliance and GAAP. A master's degree is expected, and a CMA is preferred.
Your Team
You'll oversee four direct reports and six people in total: three senior accountants, one junior accountant, and two accounting clerks who cover AP, AR, and payroll.
The Culture
People tend to stick around here for the long haul, and the working environment reflects that stability.
Systems & ERP
The shop runs on Made2Manage by Aptean; experience with OneStream, SQL, and Power BI will serve you well.
Travel & Remote
Plan on some onboarding travel early on to the Gulf Coast and California sites, then roughly two trips each quarter afterward. Add in corporate training sessions and one annual trip for the joint-venture board.
The Benefits
This goes well beyond a standard Controller seat—it's a chance to plug into a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing enterprise and get the mentorship needed to step up into the Director of Finance role down the line.
The Location
Set in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo, TX pairs an affordable cost of living with a friendly community and an easy daily commute. You'll find plenty of open space, outdoor recreation, and a lifestyle that works well for families.
