This chair opened up because its previous occupant earned a promotion — so now there's room for someone ready to own cost accounting from start to finish inside a rapidly expanding, FDA-regulated plasma-therapeutics maker, and to climb as the company climbs.

The Overview

We're representing a specialty biopharmaceutical manufacturer headquartered in Boca Raton, FL that develops plasma-based treatments for people coping with immune deficiencies. All production takes place under strict FDA regulation, and the organization is riding a steep growth curve, with an internal aim of roughly doubling revenue across the coming years. This Cost Accounting Manager search is being handled confidentially for our client. Positioned within finance, the role reports up to the Senior Manager of FP&A and Cost Accounting and takes full ownership of cost accounting spanning manufacturing, quality, and plasma operations. Reporting into the position are two cost accountants.

The Role

Picture hands-on ownership rather than a supervisory tier hovering above the details. The person hired will answer for the accuracy of standard costs, the way inventory gets valued, and the caliber of manufacturing financial reporting across a genuinely complex, multi-division setup.

  • Establish and maintain standard costs across the entire plasma-derived product lineup, capacity assumptions and all
  • Manage the annual manufacturing budgeting process side by side with plant teams
  • Own month-end close — valuing inventory, examining reserves, reconciling the balance sheet, and reviewing cost center spending
  • Break down manufacturing variances and translate shop-floor activity into financial insight for leadership
  • Deliver monthly reporting on capital project spend
  • Keep costing policies and practices in step with both corporate objectives and FDA compliance
  • Drive improvement — identify the gap, make the case, and execute without drowning in bureaucracy
  • Collaborate with operations, senior leadership, and outside auditors
  • Develop rapport with plasma site leaders, including quarterly trips to collection sites to witness operations directly
  • Manage and mentor a two-person cost accounting team

In Our Words

Several consistent themes surfaced as we spoke with the hiring team. This position is available because the prior holder was promoted — which says a lot about how top performers get treated here. The senior-manager tier immediately above this role is brand new, and finance is deliberately being built out to match where the company is heading.

The CFO was blunt with us: culture was the number-one reason he came aboard. He left a larger employer specifically for how this place operates — honest dialogue, a flatter org, and far less red tape. Have a fresh idea or want to reshape a process? You can genuinely get it done. That's not marketing language; it reflects how the leadership team actually operates.

What he's truly after in this hire is a person he can trust to tell the finance story honestly and then leverage it to guide decisions. Costing expertise is non-negotiable. Equally important is the capacity to dig deep into plasma facility financials, hold the full operational picture in mind, and keep the standard-cost engine running smoothly.

The daily work is detailed: setting and updating standards, closing the books, explaining variances, and serving as a true finance partner to site leadership. The pace is real. With the company growing fast, this person is expected to grow right along with it.

The Hiring Manager

This role reports to the Senior Manager of FP&A and Cost Accounting — a leader promoted from within, whose advancement is precisely what created this opening. The CFO is hands-on throughout the process and will carry significant weight in the final call.

That CFO leads through values and relationships. He picked this company over his previous one because of the culture, and he protects it deliberately. In a cost accounting manager, he's looking for someone who earns trust through accuracy, candor, and clean financial communication — the story behind the numbers, not merely the numbers. Order-takers who wait to be told won't thrive here; he wants someone ready to question the status quo and pitch something better.

Your Team

Two cost accountants report to this position. It's a player-coach setup: the expectation is genuine involvement in the work, not oversight from arm's length. Part of how success is judged here is how effectively those two are coached, developed, and retained.

The Culture

In every discussion we've had about this employer, culture is the trait mentioned most often. The CFO describes it as family-first, with open communication and transparency that came across as authentic — uncommon enough versus his prior employer that it swung his decision to join.

Finance itself gets described as collaborative and supportive. Fresh ideas are welcomed, and the road to approval is short. Coming from a sluggish, heavily layered organization, this will feel like another planet — in the best possible way. If you rely on abundant structure and ready-made processes being handed over, anticipate a fast environment.

What's produced here matters to patients living with serious immune deficiencies, and that sense of purpose is woven into the culture. People here tend to be motivated by something larger than a job description.

Systems & ERP

The core ERP in place today is SAP ECC. A transition to SAP HANA is planned, so familiarity with either phase of that migration counts for a lot. BPCS and OneStream fill out the broader systems picture. Practical SAP ECC experience truly sets applicants apart here. Anyone who has been through an ECC-to-HANA migration within manufacturing or pharma will move straight to the front of the line.

Travel & Remote

Expect quarterly visits to plasma collection sites, mostly to observe the facilities and build relationships with the leaders who run them. Overall travel is minimal but consistent and woven into the job's rhythm. The position is on-site in Boca Raton, with no remote flexibility indicated.

The Benefits

This is a company that invests real dollars in the careers of people who perform. The senior-manager layer above this role came about through an internal promotion, and the ongoing growth keeps opening new doors.

Rounding out the package: tuition assistance that begins after the first year; an annual performance-based bonus; a 401(k) with an immediately vested company match; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; pet coverage; fully company-paid short- and long-term disability; paid holidays; three weeks of PTO in the first year; and a free shuttle to the nearby Tri-Rail station.

The Location

Boca Raton lies along Florida's southeast coast — roughly 45 minutes north of Miami and about half an hour above Fort Lauderdale. The quality of life is strong: miles of Atlantic beaches, a robust food and arts culture, and a truly international, diverse community.

This part of the coast has grown into an expanding center for life sciences and biopharma, so networking and long-term career flexibility both hold up nicely. Keep the cost of living in perspective — South Florida runs pricey — although the absence of state income tax balances the equation for most people relocating from higher-tax areas. If you're drawn to sun, water, and easy proximity to a major metro without actually living inside one, Boca Raton is a genuinely attractive place to land.
