Looking for a seat where finance actually shapes the business rather than simply recording what already happened — and where you're building a team instead of babysitting a close calendar? This is that role.
The Overview
This employer is a Fortune 500 worldwide leader in power solutions, engineering and delivering engines, filtration technology, and power generation equipment to customers across more than 190 countries. Its Rocky Mount, NC operation ranks among the company's premier engine production sites. Positioned inside a Line of Business/Regional Distribution Organization, this Assistant Controller opening reports directly to the Business Unit Controller.
The Role
Expect a true end-to-end controllership seat with genuine range. Ownership spans the Annual Operating Plan along with the multi-cycle forecasting process, leadership of the internal control environment, and accountability for site-level SEC reporting compliance. A typical month has you working through account reconciliations, chasing down the root cause behind variances, managing the financials on capital projects, and projecting logistics spend and working capital — all while growing the finance professionals who report to you. The technical demands run deep: COGS, inventory valuation, overhead allocation, WIP accounting, and high-throughput transaction settings are every bit in play.
In Our Words
This company pairs the discipline and rigor you'd expect from a large public enterprise with the day-to-day intensity of a live manufacturing floor. If you're after a role where finance genuinely drives the decisions instead of merely reporting on them — and where you get to build a team rather than just run a close calendar — this seat fits.
The Hiring Manager
You'll report into the Business Unit Controller, who is looking for a capable second-in-command able to stand in for the finance function on their own and move succession planning forward within the group.
Your Team
You'll lead finance staff — the precise headcount is still being confirmed, though the role clearly carries mentoring, a regular 1:1 rhythm, goal-setting, and full ownership of professional development.
The Culture
This is a process-driven shop, with formal close checklists, internal control frameworks, and audit readiness woven right into how the team operates. It's an environment that values people who can professionally push back on the status quo and drive it forward — not simply keep it steady.
