Run the finances for ~$175M in combined revenue across two Huhtamaki plants — thermoforming in Michigan and injection molding in Ohio — and lead both through an Oracle Fusion implementation in year one.
The Overview
We partnered with Huhtamaki, a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, to find a Multi-Site Plant Controller for their manufacturing hub in Coleman, Michigan and New Vienna, Ohio. This is a heavy-hitter role overseeing ~$175M in combined revenue and ~450 employees. You will bridge the gap between two different manufacturing technologies: the high-speed thermoforming of Coleman (Costco party cups) and the precision injection molding of New Vienna (Chinet premium ware). This is a role for a true operations partner who wants to run a region, not just a set of books.
The Role
You will act as the financial leader for both facilities: standardizing financial reporting, leading the budget process for both sites, and managing capital deployment across the region. A major deliverable in year one is shepherding both sites through an Oracle Fusion implementation while maintaining strict capital discipline. You will need to switch gears between the high-volume/low-margin pressures of Coleman and the efficiency/utilization focus needed at New Vienna.
In Our Words
The client was very transparent: the last person in this role struggled because they treated the two plants as silos and inevitably favored one while neglecting the other. To win in this role, you must be disciplined about your schedule. You cannot let the 'noise' of the big plant drown out the needs of the smaller one. Traveling to the other facility once a month is a requirement for success.
The Hiring Manager
The leadership team is looking for someone with 'capital discipline.' They need a partner who can build a business case for a new machine, present the CapEx project, and get it approved. Reporting is to the Plant Manager operationally and to the North America Operations Controller functionally.
Your Team
You will inherit a small but capable team, including a Finance Leadership Development Program (FLDP) participant described as very strong. Your goal is to mentor this team while ensuring they are integrated into daily operations. Since you cannot be in two places at once, you need to have incredible systems for tracking performance remotely.
The Culture
Huhtamaki is a Finnish-owned company with a massive North American footprint. They value 'stick-to-itiveness' and operational grit. At their core, they offer the European work-life balance approach. The culture in Coleman is fast-paced due to the high volume of production. Safety and sustainability are not buzzwords here — they are the core of the manufacturing process.
Systems & ERP
Currently running BPCS, moving to Oracle Fusion in April. Oracle experience is a huge plus, but advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, modeling) are non-negotiable. You need to be data-savvy enough to pull details out of Excel and help the team thrive during the ERP implementation.
Travel & Remote
Ideally based in Coleman, MI or New Vienna, OH, with travel to the other site roughly one week per month (25%). Relocation is available. Coleman offers small-town living with housing costs 35% below the national average, access to the Pere Marquette Rail Trail, and a 20-minute drive to the amenities of Midland and Mount Pleasant.
