A rapidly scaling aerospace manufacturer is helping shape the future of spaceflight — and it's looking for a Plant Controller to be the finance anchor as production ramps up.
The Overview
This company engineers, builds, and flies launch vehicles and spacecraft, with a mission centered on delivering space hardware at a small fraction of what such capabilities have historically cost. The product lineup spans small and medium launch systems plus a lunar lander program developed alongside a major government space agency. Still relatively young — under a decade in operation — and expanding quickly, the business is now scaling its manufacturing footprint and wants a Plant Controller to serve as the finance cornerstone while output grows.
The Role
Filling the seat of a leader who is moving on, this position carries clear expectations: take full ownership of the monthly close, stand up and sustain standard costing, lead the cost accounting group, and act as the day-to-day operational finance backbone — freeing the Director of Finance to concentrate on ERP architecture and budgeting. You'll be the one generating the P&L after each journal entry, insisting the team drive variances back to their true root cause, and pressing partners across Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering on the reasoning behind GAAP practices. The ERP, Odoo, is up and running but not fully built out; you'll help shape and refine those workflows over time and contribute to the eventual move to a stronger platform.
In Our Words
The company has already delivered striking cost reductions and faces genuine pressure to accelerate production. Its finance group is small, sharp, and team-oriented — but with the prior Plant Controller now gone, both the close and daily cost management need a seasoned owner right away. This isn't a spot for someone content to churn out reports and pass them upward. It calls for a person with real depth in standard costing, strong people-management instincts, and the presence to hold a room full of rocket engineers to financial discipline.
The Hiring Manager
The finance function here is led by a direct, seasoned leader who is highly intentional about evaluating candidates. Depth matters to him — he'd rather dig into overhead absorption and variance capitalization than trade high-level generalities. He also prizes energy and genuine engagement during interviews; he shows up enthusiastic and expects candidates to match that. Anyone simply going through the motions won't move forward.
Your Team
You'll oversee the current cost accounting staff, who today manage journal entries and reconciliations with close oversight. Growing that group — including raising the bar to full root-cause analysis on every variance — is central to the role.
The Culture
This is a high-growth, fast-moving environment where the culture favors people who act quickly, work things out, and then polish. As the organization matures toward public-company readiness, finance serves as the guardrail — and whoever takes this role will be counted on to hold that line without becoming a bottleneck. You'll need to thrive amid ambiguity, build process from scratch, and be willing to be the most disciplined voice in the room.
Systems & ERP
The ERP in use today is Odoo. It's functional but underutilized, especially for inventory reporting and reserves. The Plant Controller will operate in Odoo at the transaction level, push process improvements, and help plan the eventual transition to a more capable system.
The Location
This is an onsite position based at the company's office in Cedar Park, Texas. Manufacturing takes place at a separate facility elsewhere in central Texas.
