GLOBAL BEDDING & MATTRESS MANUFACTURER · TRINITY, NC
Senior Manager of Cost Accounting
The world's leading bedding manufacturers has opened a brand-new senior leadership seat, designed to add strategic horsepower and management capacity to the Cost Accounting and Bill of Materials teams that support several of its operating entities.
The Overview
This employer ranks among the very largest bedding manufacturers globally, with a portfolio of well-known brands that reach consumers at every price tier. The business is actively pursuing vertical integration — folding in a major retail acquisition and moving to bring spring manufacturing back in-house. Importantly, this is a freshly created leadership position rather than a replacement hire, established to deepen strategic capability and add bandwidth across the Cost Accounting and Bill of Materials functions serving multiple entities.
The Role
As Senior Manager of Cost Accounting, you'll own both the strategy and the day-to-day execution of standard costing across the U.S. and Puerto Rico operating units, along with BOM support extending into Mexico and Canada. Your reach spans the full cost cycle: partnering with sourcing on raw material costing, developing labor and overhead rates alongside Operations Finance, and driving BOM finalization plus standard cost activation for new product introductions. You'll have a real seat at the table with New Product Development, sourcing, plant operations, and engineering — not as an observer, but as the definitive voice on true cost and on how the system must be set up to capture it correctly.
In Our Words
The hiring manager was refreshingly blunt about what she wants: someone capable of owning their domain, reading a room, and preserving relationships while still having the backbone to push back when the business needs to hear it. The team works with plenty of imaginative people across a sizable organization — folks who occasionally show up with wonderful ideas and figures that fall apart under examination. This role is effectively the "department of reality": diplomatic, cooperative, and constructive, yet firmly anchored in fact.
The Hiring Manager
Your future boss is the Controller responsible for cost accounting, financial reporting, BOM, and payroll accounting shared services. She came up through cost accounting herself, will have candidates talk through real journal entries during interviews, and has little patience for people strong in costing but weak in accounting — or the reverse. Expect someone direct, practical, and currently operating lean. She isn't hunting for a hire to babysit; she wants someone who lifts the entire function off her plate.
Your Team
You'll have two direct reports: a Cost Accounting Manager and a Bill of Materials Manager who has been with the company for over a decade and brings deep expertise in BOM execution.
The Culture
The tempo here is steady and well balanced. There's always a new challenge on the horizon. The hiring manager pointed out that people coming from public accounting often settle in well since there is always something new to work on, minus the crazy hours. Someone who prefers heads-down solo work will struggle in this seat. The organization is big, cross-functional teamwork never stops, and thriving here means forging strong ties across NPD, sourcing, operations, and finance.
Systems & ERP
The group works inside Dynamics 365.
The Benefits
There's a 10% annual bonus target at full payout, plus an employee discount on the company's premium products that the hiring manager called out as a genuine perk.
